Smoking, Lung Cancer & Type 2 Diabetes
We now should all be aware of the danger of contracting lung cancer due to heavy-duty cigarette smoking. Warnings have been given out as many as 50 years ago on the dangers of smoking.
One of these warning is this shocking fact, in addition to all the risks that most people are aware of:
Active and heavy smokers run a high 40% increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
With this warning, if you still smoke, you should do something about it. Now. And if you know of anyone who still smokes, it would be kind to share this warning with them.
The usual excuse of “…it’s only a couple of cigarettes now and then…that can’t do any harm…” is really just, well…a lame excuse. It’s not good.
Why? Because even these “…couple of cigarettes now and then...” increase your risk of contracting type 2 diabetes by a whopping 200%. Even smokers who’ve quit still run a 15% risk of contracting type 2 diabetes.
That’s how severe even those “...couple of cigarettes now and then...” can be.
You really have to ask yourself this question:
Are these “…couple of cigarettes now and then..” really worth the risks of getting type 2 diabetes (and lung cancer and a whole host of other health problems)?

The research examined the link between cigarette smoking and diabetes. A few obvious observations that were the direct consequences of smoking include:
- higher levels of inflammation
- increased levels of cortisol
- increased oxidative stress.
These dire consequences can result immediately in
- insulin resistance and
- rampant uncontrollable blood sugar levels.
What is the remedy for these problems?
The answer is so simple, even a child can tell you: Very simply ~ QUIT SMOKING…IMMEDIATELY.
You just have to stop. Basta. Full stop. Finito. Period.
It may not be easy but it will be worth it. Enrol the support of your loved ones. Do hyponosis. Do whatever it takes. But STOP…
Diabetes is NO Joke and certainly NO Fun
You don’t really want to become diabetic. It’s no fun.
You don’t see diabetics in ‘happy’ places enjoying themselves because they’re ill and suffering at home. Or they’re at the hospital full of gangrene and having their toes or their fingers or their legs amputated.
Then all sorts of complications result from this. It really is a matter of life and death.
Smoking is no longer ‘cool’ and has disdvantageous Cosmetic Effects
In addition, it’s not even cool anymore these days to smoke. It may have been in the 80s and the 90s, but no longer.
And when you smoke, there are other cosmetic disadvantages like ashtray breath, puckered lips, stained teeth, pasty greyish skin, smelly hair and clothes.
Research indicate the risks of contracting diabetes drop as soon as you stop smoking.
You know, at the end of the day, it all boils down to this: Make Smarter Choices. You have to make these choices consciously, actively and deliberately. ‘Deliberately’ means just that: intentionally. It’s really that simple.
In addition, you should stay away from smoky places as secondary smoke can cause just as many problems.
And if you still smoke, and you smoke in the presence of your children, your spouse, your loved ones, in the home, in the car…perhaps you should pause, reflect and ask yourself this question:
“Are their lives worth so little that you can continue to harm them
for just a few puffs everyday?”

Sugar and cancer …? Don’t laugh. They’re partners in crime.
Most of us know that cancer is a leading cause of death in many of the industrialised countries today. So be open to (old) new findings.
Obesity is on the rise not just in adults but now even among youngsters below 10. The major factors that contribute to both diseases are usually elevated levels of insulin and leptin.
What exactly is insulin?
Insulin is a vital hormone that plays a key role in the regulation of blood sugar levels; without it, a person could go into a hyper-glycemic coma that can lead to death. Today, too many people have insulin levels that are much too high.
How does insulin work?
After consuming carbohydrates, your blood sugar rises. Your pancreas triggers the release of insulin. The role of insulin is to ensure that your cells receive the necessary blood sugar that keeps your body functioning and then stores the rest of the blood sugar as glycogen and fat.
When you consume more carbohydrates, your pancreas secretes more insulin. More insulin will cause the body to use more carbohydrates, but less fat, as fuel. Any surplus carbohydrates is converted into fat that is subsequently stored. In a nutshell, when you consume too much carbohydrates, you’re actually instructing your body (adipose cells) to use insulin to store fat.
The more insulin your pancreas secretes, the fatter you get.
The increased levels of insulin will result in your body storing more carbohydrates as fat. At the same time, it also instructs the body not to release any previously stored fat. As a result of this, it would be virtually impossible for you to use any of your previously stored fat as energy.
Therefore, consumption of too much carbohydrates not only results in making you fat, it also ensures that you remain fat.
In order to use excess fat (previously stored fat) for energy, you must control insulin levels. Diets that are high in refined carbohydrates cause the pancreas to secrete more insulin that results in 2 things: storage of excess carbohydrates, and not converting previously stored fat to be used for fuel.
The Over Production of Insulin due to Excess Refined Carbohydrate is a major cause of the vast majority of Chronic and Degenerative Diseases
High levels of insulin in your body is very bad news. It can cause serious health problems that include:
- heart disease
- kidney disease
- elevated cholesterol and lipid levels
The Sugar and Cancer Connection:
Insulin influences Cancer Cells
Cancer cells that are active and growing can swamp other cells. This action cuts off access to the blood vessels that carry the vital oxygen that feed them.
However, when this occurs, there are some cancer cells that have mutated to such an extent that they are even able to bypass their requirement for oxygen. Instead, they switch to using the glycolytic (break-down of sugar) pathway, which they continue to use, even in the presence of restored oxygen supply.
Harvard Medical School Research:
Researchers may have found an effective therapy against cancer: blocking the enzyme LDHA, one of the enzymes in the glycolytic (break-down of sugar) pathway.
What these researchers did
They blocked LDHA thus shutting down glycolysis (break-down of sugar) in breast cancer cells. They then implanted these cells in a group of mice. In this group, there were 2 deaths, at 16 and 18 weeks. At the end of the 4-month research, 80% of these LDHA-deficient mice were still alive.
There was another group of mice, the control group, that was riddled with tumour cells fed on a full glycolytic pathway. These control mice died within 10 weeks.
Harvard Research Conclusion: The weak link in the glycolytic pathway could be LDHA. Therefore, removing the glycolytic pathway from cancerous cells could deprive them of the fuel they require to proliferate.
The deadly Sugar and Cancer Connection:
Your risk of contracting cancer increases as the levels of your blood sugar rise.
Some 80 years ago, Otto Heinrich Warburg, a German physician and one of the 20th century’s leading biochemist, was awarded a Nobel Prize for discovering that cancer cells depend on sugar as its source of fuel.
When most of our great grand parents were still living, the medical world were exposed to this important information. So today, we should be thankful that researchers at Harvard have confirmed this again.
With this knowledge, what can you do ~ proactively?
So what you need to do now is to control whatever (diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, obesity) you may be suffering from. How? From a modern point of view, it may seem silly and drastic, but here it is:
The Sugar and Cancer Connection:
Avoid ALL sugars and most grains.
Avoid cakes, pastries, stodge.
Yes, you read right.
All sugars. That includes honey, maple syrup, most fruits, sugar, sugars in sodas and soft drinks, drinks and foods with hidden sugars, alcohol and fruit juices.
Sugar is sugar, whether it’s premium organic or cheap refined white-label. Your pancreas is not brand sensitive. It is sugar sensitive.
All grains, even the organic ones and the ‘new’ ancient grains like quinoa, spelt, amaranth and spelt will cause your insulin levels to rise.
Then there’s stodge made from grains ~ cakes, pastries, biscuits, cookies, pasta.
Implement An Effective Exercise Program
In addition to cutting out the offending food items above, an effective exercise program is important.
Studies have shown that exercise is associated with lower incidences of cancer. Exercise helps improve insulin and leptin sensitivity. This in turn, helps to keep your fasting blood sugar level below the 100 level which seems to be the level above which the risks of cancer increase dramatically.

Are you moving away from cancer?
Finally, you will want to know if you are going in the correct direction – away from cancer. How do you find out?
Visit your doctor for a fasting blood insulin test. A normal fasting blood insulin level is below 5. You’ll know you are safe if it’s below 5. Ideally you’ll want to be below 3.
Cancer is no joke. It is debilitating, for the patient and for those who care for, and who love him/her. The physical and emotional suffering is immense.
Don’t go that route. Take preventive measures NOW, now that you know about the sugar and cancer connection.

Here are 3 Hidden Cancer Culprits You Should Be Aware of…
Cancer? Remove the cause of the problem first.
When a person is diagnosed with cancer, most doctors and oncologists will treat a him/her with the usual therapies of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.
However hard it may be to believe, few doctors or oncologists will mention anything about the causes of cancer. Or getting rid of the causes first before commencing medical treatment. Why? I don’t know, but they don’t. Perhaps a few do, but the majority don’t.
If there is rust on your metal gate, you remove the rust first before repainting the gate, or else the rust will just come out through the new paint. Quickly.
If you are putting new wall paper on your walls, you strip out the old paper and sandpaper the walls first. You just don’t plaster on new wallpaper on top of the old. Otherwise, the new wallpaper will not hold.
When a child, I was allergic to shellfish. Every time I ate shellfish, my lips swelled up to enormous proportions. My grandfather, a medical doctor and a huge of lover of shellfish, encouraged me to continue eating shellfish as he had an antidote for my problem. I didn’t like being teased mercilessly by other children, so I didn’t follow grandfather’s advice or take his antidotes. I simply avoided shellfish like the plague and never had deformed, swollen lips again when I was a child.
So, too, for the causes of cancer ~ find out what they are and remove them first.
It is indeed a shockingly, sad and terrifying moment when anyone is diagnosed with cancer. However, remember that cancer does not appear all of a sudden on unfortunate, unsuspecting, innocent people. There has to be a cause or causes. Don’t take a cancer diagnosis as a finality that can’t be changed. It doesn’t have to be a death sentence.
So look for the causes first and remove them before you start any medical treatment. Speak with your doctor or a complementary health therapist for help.
The 3 Big Hidden Cancer Culprits
A major hidden cause of cancer lies in your teeth – amalgam fillings, root canals and other jaw problems. These problems can cause cancer.
While you may not link cancer with oral health, it’s a fact that bad oral health affects not just your mouth, but your overall health.
Gum inflammation, toxic pockets of bacteria in the jaw and mercury seeping insidiously from your amalgam fillings can cause havoc to your immune system and rip it to shreds.
If these are the causes of cancer, then it would make no sense to simply focus on getting rid of the problem, since the cancer would simply return again and again and again, while you get weaker and weaker and weaker from all the surgery, radiation or chemotherapy.
Often, when root canals and amalgam fillings are the cause of the cancer and are subsequently removed, many patients get better, sometimes almost 100%.
So, get your amalgam fillings and root canals removed. Remove all old roots and clean out your oral cavity.
You must be treated by a biological dentist who has been trained to do all this.
2. Cancer Culprit #2: Unresolved Emotional Stress
This may surprise you that unresolved emotional stress can lead to cancer. While this may not be a 100% cause of cancer, many cancer cases stem from some form of trauma, emotional shock, grief or other psychological stress.
When diagnosed with cancer, it’s worth finding out whether there may have been the occurrence of a jarring event in that person’s life in the previous year or so. Has there been a death or a divorce that he/she is suffering from? Financial ruin? Fall from grace? Bullying?
Low grade stress and suffering may still continue for years after the initial shocking trauma has passed. So, you may need to go back to previous years when you may have had a great emotional shock/trauma.
3. Cancer Culprit #3: The Modern Diet
A life-time of faulty food habits, emotional stress and trauma plus bad dental work ~ and we’re bull’s eye candidates for cancer.
The typical modern diet is unhealthy. It feeds cancer all the things it loves: processed de-natured foods, plenty of refined sugar, high fructose corn syrup, preservatives, chemical white salt, heavy metals, hydrogenated oils and artificial chemicals and colourings.
These 3 culprits: bad dental work, emotional stress and trauma and the typical modern diet are packed neatly into a box called ‘CANCER’.
Of course, there are other causes of cancer like smoking, chewing tobacco, environmental toxins, radiation and vaccinations (many of which contain known toxins like mercury and formaldehyde). And many more.
Vaccinations are another touchy subject touched upon here.
Get rid of the causes first. After all, if getting rid of them doesn’t work and your cancer still remains, you can always opt for surgery, radiation and chemotherapy then.

The next time you reel back at the redolent smell of garlic from a Greek/Italian/Spanish man’s breath or body odour on a hot summer’s day, you might well want to change your attitude and start admiring these people who consume garlic like a baby would imbibe milk at his mother’s breast.
Maybe their ancestors knew it all along. And we’ve only just found out.
Heavy consumers and connoisseurs of garlic (I, myself, included and thankfully more so now after this research) will be most heartened to learn this:
A group of researchers at the Medical University of South Carolina discovered that certain organo-sulphur compounds that occur naturally in garlic can, in fact, zap and destroy brain cancer cells while leaving the healthy ones alone.
The Summary of the Research
This team of 3 researchers did an in vitro (culture) analysis of the effects of the three natural garlic compounds on brain cancer cells, particular glioblastoma which is the fastest brain cancer tumour in adults.
The team cultured two types of glioblastoma cancer cells. They then administered the three sulfur compounds from garlic into the culture. The three garlic compounds were diallyl disulfide (DADS). diallyl trisulfide (DATS) and dallyl sulfide(DAS).
The team noted that all three compounds had cytotoxic (cancer-killing) effects, in particular DATS. DATS “induced cell death via reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and a mitochondria-mediated pathway.”
These three sulfur compounds had the amazing ability to pass through the blood-brain barrier and induce cell apoptosis and, in addition, prevent further cancer cell growth.
What is most interesting to note here is what is implied from the background of this research: The protection against carcinogenesis that the garlic sulfur compound provided was already known. The team of three were trying to determine the protective mechanics of these 3 compounds.
Well, they not only found out how…they also found out more.
They isolated the exact protective mechanics AND were able to determine that these 3 compounds ARE MORE THAN PROTECTIVE….

A handful of raw garlic cloves
Peel open your garlic cloves and expose them to air for 15 minutes or so. This helps release those three precious compounds. You may want to crush them for extra exposure. Then consume them raw to obtain the full benefits.
